Janey Colbourne

My inspiration comes from a deep connection with nature, a fascination with human emotions and a strong sense of justice. Through my work I intend to bring connection and inspiration to people and give a voice to environmental and humanitarian rights. I am a neurodiversity advocate, working to raise awareness and understanding. I also like to see the humour and poetry in mundane, everyday life.

BIO

I am a writer, spoken word poet and musician. I have published two books of poetry as an independent author and am currently working on two non-fiction books about how humanity relates to the rest of nature. This is a crucial time in our evolution and the collective choices we make in the next few decades will have an irreversible impact on future generations. I have a particular interest in environmental humanities as I believe exploring this intersection of science, arts and humanities is one of the ways we can move forward and restore balance in our approach to life. I have a background in science, languages and the arts. I trained as a medical herbalist and have studied shamanism. My work is philosophical and political at times but also intended to be lyrical and inspirational. My music is a mixture of spoken word, song and electronica.
Many of my poems express my deep relationship with nature, and with the plants in particular. Some aspects of my writing I consider to be therapeutic through recognition and expression of people's needs and feelings or through presenting a new, empowering perspective. Healing can be achieved through reconnection with ourselves, our human family and with nature.
